Main Street Meats started as a neighborhood butcher shop promising locally sourced meats from family farms, raised without antibiotics, growth stimulants, or animal components in the feed. They expanded to become a popular lunch and dinner destination while providing custom cuts of premium meats to area restaurants.
Haskel Sears played a pivotal role reviving the character and charm of the original building in a subcontracting relationship focused on minimalist design and maximum function. With an understanding of old bones within the structure, Haskel Sears’ design showcases the exposed brick walls, rustic corrugated sliding doors and expansive windows to embrace wall-to-wall wooden custom benches with three-tone woodcraft tables and counters for a neighborhood eatery atmosphere.
Shiny white-tiled walls, clean white ceilings, and contemporary stained cement floors set the stage for the gourmet butcher shop. Haskel Sears addition of exterior wood awnings are supported by flowing artistic brackets that balance modern design elements with the history of the building.
In the early 1900s this area was an urban center of industry for manufacturing and transportation. When the factories and railways closed the streets were lined with abandoned warehouses and aging buildings. Now Main Street Meats has become another example of the Southside’s rebirth as a sustainable urban neighborhood.
Many of Chattanooga’s best restaurants, including Easy Bistro & Bar, Alleia, St. John’s and The Flying Squirrel feature their products. An exclusive charcuterie program features local meats crafted, salted, cured or hung to dry, taking up to a year or more to reach perfect texture and flavor. At Main Street Meats, they “bring the best of old world recipes together with a relentless search for new ideas and flavors, creating a new and uniquely Chattanoogan food culture in every bite.”
